Helping You See More Clearly and Efficiently

Did you know that our visual skills have to be developed just like any other skill? From the moment we’re born, we are learning how to use our eyes. We use many different vision skills to learn, read, write, and interact with our world.

Adults and children alike heavily depend on their visual skills to navigate learning and work. 80% of classroom learning is visual, and strong, healthy eyes will set your child up for successful school years.

Occasionally, eye conditions can affect how you see and may lead to impaired vision if not corrected. Enter vision therapy.

What Is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy is a non-surgical, personalized treatment designed to correct visual problems by helping patients learn, relearn, and reinforce various visual skills. These skills range from tracking, eye movement accuracy, eye teaming, and focusing control, among many others.

When eyeglasses and contacts alone can’t treat a vision problem, vision therapy can be effective at helping patients see more efficiently and comfortably.

Vision Therapy Helps Children & Adults

Vision therapy is often used for children to correct various, common childhood vision problems, like strabismus and amblyopia. But it can be as equally effective for adults as well.

Adults who experience vision problems may very well have been dealing with them for their whole lives. But vision problems don’t simply go away on their own. They need attention and proper treatment.

No matter how old you are or how long you’ve had vision problems, our optometrists at Terri Holland Optometry can help you see more clearly, comfortably, and efficiently.

How Does Vision Therapy Work?

Vision therapy is kind of like physical therapy for the eyes. It involves a series of in-office and at-home exercises and requires complete commitment and dedication from the patient. Without commitment, the therapy may not be as successful as it could be. The more motivated you are, the most likely treatment will be successful.

Vision therapy involves a series of exercises (at home or in-office) and equipment and instruments like:

  • Video games
  • Stereo-viewers
  • Prisms
  • Filters
  • Lenses

These instruments are used to train the eyes to see more efficiently and the brain to receive and interpret that information more effectively.

Because vision therapy is personalized and based on the patient’s unique needs, the length of time needed for success depends entirely on the individual patient.

The type of vision problem being treated, the severity of the problem, and the patient’s age and motivation affect how long or how many treatments will be required before improvement is seen.

Our experienced eye care team will determine the length of your child’s or your specific treatment plan during a comprehensive eye exam and evaluation. We work directly with you to help you achieve your goals for seeing better and more comfortably.
